Every April 17th, we celebrate Malbec World Day! Celebrating this holiday is a great excuse to open up a bottle of Malbec to celebrate with the grape varietal, Argentina, and its success with Malbec! We have provided a few recommendations for your liking below. – Cheers!

Malbec World Day Facts

-Malbec is famously grown and is the prominent grape of Argentina.

-Malbec originated in the Southwest part of France.

-Argentina is the main producer of Malbec worldwide.

-In the year 1853 Malbec was introduced to Argentina.

-On April 17, 1853, the date of this holiday, commemorates the commissioning of Michel Pouget by Argentinian president Domingo Faustino Sarmiento to bring some new varieties of grapes from France to Argentina

Appellation: Mendoza, Argentina
Avg Vine Age: 50 years
Deep ruby red color, with aromas of ripe red fruit, spices and black pepper. The palate intensity is complemented by the softness and sweetness of tannins. Full-bodied and well structured. Pair with grilled or broiled red meat, deer, hard cheese.

Appellation: Mendoza, Argentina
“ARUMA” means the “night” in the language of the Quechua, the native Indians of the Mendoza region. The robe is deep red with hints of violet. The nose reveals aromas of plum and red fruit. The palate is fresh and elegant, with remarkable balance between tannins, acidity and alcohol. Long, delicate finish. Overall, a very convivial, attractive wine.

Purplish red in color. Bright and young, with very expressive aromas reminiscent of fresh red fruit and spices. It is straightforward and fluid on the palate, with lively tannins. Intense, pleasant, and fresh in the mouth. Juicy with excellent structure, distinctive variety characteristics, and a very-well integrated herbal note finish.
Appellation: San Juan, Argentina
Fruit-friendly, youthful and dynamic, Callia produces a range of easy drinking wines in the San Juan region of Argentina. Beautiful red fruits such as plums and cherries. The palate offers a balanced mouthfeel with flavors of redcurrant and black cherry supported by sweet, round tannins. It culminates in a long finish with notes of cloves and cinnamon. Excellent with barbecued dishes, burgers, spicy Mexican food such as quesadillas or tacos, roasted pork, duck, and honey baked ham.
