Favorite Winter Sangria Recipe To Share
Melissa Kok, Southeast Regional Manager for Flow Wine Group, has a favorite winter sangria recipe to share with everyone. She stumbled upon this Apple Cider Sangria recipe on Pinterest several years ago. The recipe is from Jessica from How Sweets Eats. Melissa has been making this wonderful concoction every year since then because it is a crowd pleaser!
This recipe is great because it is not too sweet, so even people who prefer drier drinks will enjoy this treat. Melissa recommends using Folonari Pinot Grigio, her favorite brand. Folonari Pinot Grigio is made with 100% Pinot Grigio from the Veneto region of Italy. It is crisp and refreshing with fruity tasting notes of lemons and green apples. This wine is also very fragrant with floral grass and clover aromas. Just a side note, Melissa uses the 1.5 Liter size bottles instead of the 750 ml.
Melissa prepares an alternative version of this recipe by using sparkling wine instead of using both the Pinot Grigio and club soda. Her sparkling wine choice is Anna de Codorníu Blanc de Blancs. This sparkling wine is a Cava made in the D.O. Cava region of Spain. The mixture of grapes consists of 70% Chardonnay, 15% Parellada and 15% of Xarel-lo and Macabeo. Moreover, this Cava is made with the traditional method, the same method used to make Champagne. It is labeled as “Cava” instead of “Champagne” because it is not from the Champagne region of France. It should not be referred to as “Spanish Champagne”. Adding this Anna de Codorníu Cava and club soda adds extra sparkle to your Sangria. The Cava on its own provides a more creamy zest with citrusy and tropical fruit notes.
The recipe is simple, delicious and doesn’t take much of your time to make. Give it a try this winter season. If you end up using this recipe, please share your thoughts or tips with us.
Happy Holidays and Cheers!
